We are in need of a better story.
A better story of ourselves, our planet, and our future. The Otherwise Collective bridges art, science and technology in service of story.
Our research seeks to restore relationships of symbiosis and economies of reciprocity with our human and more-than-human worlds.
We converge from many fields: dance, music, creative technology, cognitive neuroscience, advertising, environmental & social impact strategy, industrial design, human evolutionary biology, entrepreneurship, psychology, history, and theatre practices - and from almost as many countries. (More about us.)
We inhabit multidisciplinary, multifaceted approaches, working otherwise toward the multispecies ethic needed for an inhabitable future for all.

Anna Riley-Shepard
I use my understanding of the mind to change minds: science in service of story. My work tackles our society’s relational breakdown with nature, each other, and ourselves. I draw on the behavioral insights of neuroscience, the intuitive communication of the creative industries, and the embodied creativity of dance.

I studied Industrial Design, starting with building/making and ending up with a passion for technology. As a senior technologist at Tellart, I work in Research & Development to prototype solutions and effectively implement adjustments and improvements along the way - always with a human-centric design perspective.

I unite my backgrounds in history, dance and theatre practices to approach moments of transition with a focus not on static realities but on interrelated possibilities. My practice is embedded within feminism and decolonial frames that provide a critical understanding of our current socio-political and affective conditions and facilitate re-imagining of alternative futures.

I'm moved by the idea of ecountering and sharing better, healthier and happier strategies for ourselves as unique living beings, others and the environment we exist within. I navigate and follow this bliss through diverse movement practices, performing arts and holistic psychology.
