Artist Statement: Talking & Listening to Plants

Things come into sharp focus when you’re losing a loved one. Your mind goes to the natural world that both heightens and softens the loss. What seemed incidental, the backdrop of the story – oregano, sage, and other herbs and spices – in memory becomes what you remember, the primary thing. I’m so glad I wrote this poem! I go back and read it from time to time, and my wife is with me again.
