Artist Statement: Talking & Listening to Plants

 I don't think I can explain my relationship between my written work and the natural world better than what I've written in my poem "The Music of Being,” published here in the inaugural issue of Plant-Human Quarterly.

CHARD DENIORD is the author of seven books of poetry, most recently In My Unknowing (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2020), Interstate (UPitt, 2019), and The Double Truth (UPitt, 2011). He is also the author of two books of interviews with eminent American poets: Sad Friends, Drowned Lovers, Stapled Songs, Conversations and Reflections on 20th Century Poetry (Marick Press, 2011) and I Would Lie To You If I Could (UPitt, 2018). deNiord is Professor Emeritus of English and Creative Writing at Providence College. From 2015 to 2019 he served as poet laureate of Vermont.
