Sarah Audsley
Artist Statement: Talking & Listening to Plants
Writing is essential to my internal wiring. I write for my life, to exist as an invented self, to process experience, for the poem to be an experience. Writing is also how I choose to enact self-determination. Choosing a place is a way of belonging. By connecting to the natural world, and the place I've chosen, I find a renewed sense of belonging. In this case, the potted amaryllis on my windowsill is featured in contrast to the wintery landscape outside, and offers a mirror for the poet-speaker's inner psychological musings.
